Sub-Bass
20 – 80 Hz
The Foundation — Feel It Before You Hear It
Sub-bass frequencies are the lowest rumbles in audio — the deep punch of a kick drum, the weight of a bass drop, the earth-shaking thunder of a film soundtrack. These frequencies are felt physically as much as they are heard, creating the sense of power and impact in music.

The Body — Warmth and Fullness
This is where the body of instruments lives — the warm thump of a bass guitar, the chest resonance of a male vocal, the low bloom of a kick drum. Bass gives music its sense of fullness and warmth. Too much feels muddy; too little feels thin and cold.

Upper mids define the attack of instruments — the click of a drum stick, the pick of a guitar string, the consonants in a vocal. This range adds definition and detail, but is also where fatigue lives. Too much and audio becomes harsh; too little and it loses its edge and definition.

The Shine — Brightness and Sparkle
The presence range is responsible for the brightness and sparkle of audio — the shimmer of cymbals, the crispness of a snare, the "ssss" and "ttt" sounds in vocals. It's what makes audio sound alive and detailed rather than dull and veiled. This is also where sibilance (harsh "s" sounds) lives.
